About Pony.ai Research:
Our mission at Pony.ai Research is to create AI for the future of mobility. Leveraging our engineering prowess in autonomous driving – a leading application that drives the progress of AI, we are uniquely positioned to spearhead broader scientific breakthroughs in AI.
We push the boundaries of AI research in computer vision, machine learning, and robotics in collaboration with leading academic institutions. It is our conviction that openly disseminating research is critical to the progress of autonomous driving, and more importantly the broader field of AI. Therefore, we publish our research in top academic conferences.
Pony.ai Research is led by Dr. Li Erran Li, IEEE Fellow and ACM Fellow, and advised by Professor Andrew Yao, Turing Award Winner.
Research Scientist:
At Pony.ai, excellence is at the core of our company. Every detail counts as we work to deliver a safe, reliable, and cost-effective autonomous driving platform to the public. We take a principled approach to solve complex technical problems in areas such as computer vision, machine learning and robotics.
As a research scientist, you will collaborate with our current team working on deep learning, computer vision, and autonomous driving. You will also engage with the international research community by publishing research papers and attend academic conferences. We value high-impact technical solutions that advances the state-of-the-art. Please join us If you are passionate about inventing the AI for autonomous driving, have publications at top conferences or journals in the field of computer vision, machine learning, robotics and are an excellent programmer.
Desired Qualifications:
PhD degree in a machine learning related discipline or equivalent practical experience
Experience in one or more of the following: computer vision, deep learning and deep reinforcement learning, and learning based robotics
Strong programming skills in C++ and/or Python, experience in Tensorflow or PyTorch
Experience in data structures and algorithms is a plus

Pony.ai has a team of roughly 200 employees located across offices in Silicon Valley, Guangzhou, and Beijing. Over 80% of the team comes from top companies such as Google, Baidu, NVIDIA, Uber, Tesla, etc. In June 2017, Pony.ai obtained an autonomous testing license in California and has been testing its fleet on public roads since. In China, Pony.ai has also launched a beta autonomous ride-hailing fleet in Guangzhou, with plans to expand the service and fleet size at the end of 2018. Recently in June 2018, Pony.ai also became the first startup ever to obtain an autonomous testing permit in Beijing, logging over 5,000 autonomous kilometers on public roads while demonstrating autonomous driving proficiency in a series of scenarios in order to do so. Pony.ai partners with a number of top industry players such as Guangzhou Automobile Group and Velodyne LiDAR.
Pony.ai is backed by top investors including Sequoia Capital China, IDG Capital, Morningside Ventures, Legend Capital, etc. The company’s most recent funding round, announced July 2018, brought Pony.ai’s total capital raised to well over $200M with a valuation of close to $1B. Pony.ai is a privately held company headquartered in China and the United States.
